Steering Wheel Torque Sensor

Symptom Byte Information: Symptom Byte List.

Circuit/System Description

For an overview of the component/system, refer to:Power Steering System Description and Operation (Electronic Power Steering).

Conditions for Running the DTC

Ignition = On

Conditions for Setting the DTC

  • Steering Wheel Torque Sensor = Short to Ground
  • Steering Wheel Torque Sensor = Short to Voltage
  • Steering Wheel Torque Sensor = Open/High Resistance

Actions Taken When the DTC Sets

  • Power Steering Output Torque = Disabled
  • P9 Driver Information Center Display = Service Power Steering

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

  • A current DTC will clear on the next malfunction-free ignition cycle.
  • A history DTC will clear after 40 consecutive malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Verification

1. Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode.

2. Verify DTC C0545 is not set.

  • If the DTC is set

Replace the component: Steering Gear

  • Go to next step: If the DTC is not set

3. All OK.
